If your forum will not start

A rebuild stops the running forum before it builds the new one, so a build that fails leaves the site down.

Bring it back

Run ./launcher start app in /var/discourse. If the previous build is still on the server, the forum starts on it.

Find the cause

  • The rebuild failed: read back through the rebuild's output, as there is often more than one error.
  • The site is up, but Sysaru App is missing: look in ./launcher logs app for [SysaruApp] load failed.
  • The site is up, but Sysaru App only partly works: look in the forum's Logs, at /logs, for [SysaruApp] initialization failed.
  • The admin pages broke after an update: open /safe-mode?no_unofficial_plugins=true, which loads the forum without any third party plugin code.

If it still will not start, open a ticket with the rebuild output or ./launcher logs app attached.
